The Polonaise: A Revived Dance
of Polish Heritage and Pride
The Polonaise, a traditional Polish dance from the 18th century, has been inscribed on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Although it was banned by the communist authorities after World War II due to its aristocratic and patriotic associations, the dance retained its cultural significance in Poland and was revived in the late 1960s by university students.
